Where does the time go ?

Last year at Stitches East, I was given an adorable sample skein of Miss Babs sock yarn.  Since I had already written the pattern for a miniature mitten ornament, I offered to modify it for her 10 yard samples.

At long last, here it is.  I hope to print out a bunch of copies to give to her at Yarnbeck, since I never got around to sending it to her.

10 yard sample – Mitten Ornament

Cast on 24 stitches, divide evenly onto 4 DPNs (6 sts per needle)

Needle 3: K1, knit in stitch below previous stitch, place marker, K5
   Needle 4: Knit all stitches

Knit next round increasing just after the marker on needle 2 and just before the marker on needle 3, as described above.
Repeat from  * 2 more times (total of 10 sts between markers)
Knit 1 round.

Knit next round until you get to the 1st marker, remove it, K1, move the remaining 4 sts on needle 2 and the first 4 sts on needle 3 to scrap yarn, K1, remove marker, knit to end of round. (This joins the hand back together above the opening for the thumb.)

K2, K2tog all around (18 sts remain)
Knit all stitches next round.

K1, K2tog all around (12 sts remain)
Knit all stitches next round.

K2tog all around (6 sts remain)

Secure end.

Move thumb stitches from scrap yarn back to DPns. (4 – 2 – 2 sts)
Knit 2 rounds
K2 K2tog twice (6 sts remain)
Cut yarn, leaving a tail, thread tail through 6 remaining sts and pull tight.
Secure end.

Make a crochet chain from the cast on tail, then sew down into loop.
